Our Founder: Nik

At The Root

I’m always going to be connected to ground. Herding sheep on Montana soil taught me to keep my eyes on it.

Peering into paintings and Old West museums told me, I was walking on something special—everyday.

I was born & raised up in Graceville and The Bitterroot Valley. Classically trained in Japanese Suzuki piano—I lived in historic Yokohama, Japan, and taught English there.

In Southern California, I was a Collegiate Stage-Actress, and an honors student in Broadcasting & Creative Writing.

I’m a Vogel Award Winning Fiction Writer and published in short story prose and poetry.

I began my broadcasting career in Maine, and I sold my house in Music City way too soon.

I’m a wife, mother of three and founder/host at One Small Step for Bandkind ®

What I’m Doing

One Small Step for Bandkind® promotes the good work of artists & musicians.

We do this by talking with artists & musicians where they are: Backstage, On Stage & In The House. Our style is relaxed and impromptu and hopefully fun.

Although Nik has done this work in varying capacities for thirty years, Bandkind® is an exclusive space to collect these stories.

“As founder, host and curator for Bandkind®,” Nik says, “I want your experience here to be one of camaraderie, joy & authenticity (including trials that come with stories of being human.)“

Our logo mirrors a boot print from a remarkable step in American History. Likewise, we want our footprint to echo this: forward momentum, celebration, meaningful connections & audience encouragement.

One Small Step for Bandkind® holds eight patents with the United States Trademark & Patent Office in the area of music, apparel & partnership with artists and the charitable interests of bands & musicians.
