Her doctors and physicists discussed and disclosed the details ahead of her surgery; the team would make every effort to: 1) save her life, 2) save her eye, 3) save her vision. Ocular oncologists Shields, Shields & Lally developed plaque radiotherapy and continue to specialize in this eye cancer treatment: preparing radiation seeds arranged for Nik in the nickel sized disc, sewing the disc into place over the cancerous tumor on Nik's eye, and sewing her right eye lids together, removal of the radioactive disc. The cancer has been eradicated. The tumor is dead, entombed within the outer layers of her right eye. Nik continues to see specialists to preserve the vision in her right eye.
